The Elegant Universe Online

PBS has put up the entire series of their new NOVA program, The Elegant Universe, online in Quicktime and RealVideo format. If good science documentaries are what you crave and you haven’t already seen the airing on television, I suggest you check out the program for an example of science documentary done well. As an aside, the series was edited by former DER editor and filmmaker, Jonathan Sahula. Way to go Sahula!

HD On Extreme Budget

George Avgerakis of Videography has a review of JVC’s JY-HD10 Camcorder that has a resolution of 1280×720 at 30 progressive frames per second. It’s a bargin HD video camera for the price of $4,000, but there are somethings things to keep in mind when it comes to it’s limitions. Avgerakis’ article help to understand those limitations.

Open Video Project Documentaries

Open Video Project:

The purpose of the Open Video Project is to collect and make available a repository of digitized video content for the digital video, multimedia retrieval, digital library, and other research communities.

Currently the library holds many science documentary videos from major governmental agencies including NASA, Bureau of Reclamation, and the National Archives.

Labor Unions Use Documentary For Decisions

Boston’s WBUR program Here and Now has a radio documentary program here on documentarians covering democratic political canidates. The labor unions hired the documentarians and plan to use their films to identify a candidate to support.
