AAA Conference in San Jose, CA, Nov 15-19, 2006

SVA Call for Papers, Posters, Sessions, Films, Videos and Multimedia

The Society for Visual Anthropology invites submissions for the American Anthropological Association’s 105th Annual Meeting (”Critical Intersections/Dangerous Issues”) to be held in San Jose, CA, Nov 15-19, 2006. The deadline for submissions of any format is March 31st. Submissions for the AAA Conference must also be sent via electronic submission forms located at the AAA website: www.aaanet.org There will be two distinct areas at the AAA website for entering submission information: one for films, videos and multimedia and one for individually volunteered and organized papers and posters. Please indicate that you wish SVA to review your submission if you are submitting to the AAA conference.

The SVA encourages proposals for AAA organized sessions in a variety of formats. Individually volunteered posters and papers are also welcome. Coordinators of volunteered, organized sessions are encouraged to consider a single session of 1.75 hours or a double session of 3.75 hours. Panel discussions, author critique forums, or a combination of presenters and discussants are forms that may encourage greater audience interaction, an outcome that is highly valued by many meeting participants, according to AAA survey results. Organized poster sessions and individually volunteered posters and papers are also welcome. Poster presenters have the advantage of a two hour block of time to talk one on one with interested attendees. The annual meeting area of the AAA website includes a set of guidelines for creating posters and a list of benefits for presenting in that format. Many visual anthropology projects lend themselves well to a poster format.
