The Toronto Documentary Forum (TDF) is North America’s premier market event for the international documentary industry working in the social, cultural and political genres.  A two-day, limited-seating event, the TDF is focused around a slate of 30 preselected international project presentations.  It’s intimate and intense format has proven extremely successful in building international partnerships and raising additional financing for both presenting and observing producers, as well as providing a preeminent source of up-to-the-minute market intelligence.  This spring the TDF’s 425 delegates will include over 125 key commissioning editors and programming executives, as well as leading producers, distributors and sales agents from around the globe.

WIFVNE Now Hiring

Now Hiring Part Time Program Administrator

Women in Film & Video/New England is now hiring a part time Program Administrator. The Program Administrator is responsible for the operation of the WIFV/NE office and programs. Duties include office management, coordinating membership, promotion of programs, event staffing, and programming events and screenings. The Program Administrator reports to and works with the Board of Directors.

Requirements
* Bachelor’s Degree
* Ability to prioritize and problem-solve while handling multiple tasks.
* Excellent writing, editing, and communicating skills, with attention to detail.
* Previous experience with an office environment
* Knowledge of Filemaker Pro and familiarity with Mac.

Preferred experience
* Constant Contact or other web-based email template system
* Contribute or other website publishing software
* Quicken or Quick Books
* Knowledge of local film/video community
* Experience with event planning and fundraising

Specific duties include
* Office Management (checking and responding to emails and phonecalls, processing mail, maintaining contact database, light bookkeeping/bank reconciliation, processing payments, making deposits, purchasing supplies and services)
* Membership Coordination (processing member applications, preparing welcome packets, sending renewal notices, editing weekly e-newsletter)
* Board support (prepare membership and programming reports and attend monthly Board meetings)
* Promotion (preparing emails, sending press releases, updating website)
* Event Staffing (coordinating events, equipment needs, attendee check-in)
* Programming (planning workshops and events, researching and selecting films for screenings, selecting venues)
Details:
Part time: 16 hours/week
$12/hour plus negotiable benefits

OPPORTUNITY FOR TEENS

“Focus on Japan 2007″
Applications are due on February 1, 2007

Would your students like the chance to visit Japan, meet Japanese people and see how they live?  Through The Japan Forum’s all new Focus on Japan 2007 program, they can!

Don’t forget to tell your students if you think they might be interested in the Focus on Japan 2007 program.  The application deadline is coming up quickly, but we hope that your students will have time to apply for the chance to participate in this wonderful opportunity.

This year, the Japan Forum will be introducing the Focus on Japan 2007 program.  This program will provide the opportunity for eight high school students to spend nine days in Miyagi, Tokyo, Osaka, or Hiroshima working with Japanese students to document the life of local people through the use of photographs and writings, a creative combination that TJF likes to call photo essays.

Docs in Thessaloniki is Calling For Proposals

If you want to develop your documentary project under guidance from experienced international tutors, pitch to a panel of international financiers and create a network for future co-operations, then Docs in Thessaloniki is the place to be. It takes place on March 21-25, 2007 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Docs in Thessaloniki is an international pitching forum and workshop. It consists of a five-day programme, where 21 selected documentary projects will be developed, re-written and pitched. The first three days are a workshop where you will be working in small groups guided by international experienced tutors. The last two days are a pitching session, where participants pitch their projects to a panel of international financiers from leading broadcasters, followed by individual meetings for in-depth discussions.

To apply for Docs in Thessaloniki you must send, in English, a 2-page description of your documentary project containing the following elements:
- title, length, format
- name of producer, production company, director
- synopsis, visual treatment
- overall budget, financing plan, production plan/time of delivery
- producer and director CV & filmography
- remember address, phone, fax and e-mail of your company

Deadline for submitting your project is February 1, 2007.

We encourage all submissions to be accompanied by visual material in form of a 2-4 minute VHS/DVD-trailer. If you don’t have a trailer ready for the submitted proposal, please send an example of your previous work. Visual material should be forwarded to:

LEF GRANT DEADLINE

Mission
LEF New England established the Moving Image Fund in 2002 to provide dedicated support to independent film and video artists living and working in the six New England states. The grantmaking is targeted toward the production of work, with the larger goal of strengthening the voices of media artists and improving the overall environment for the production, exhibition, and distribution of their work. Grants are offered in two categories: Pre-production, with a maximum $5,000 grant, and Production, with a maximum $25,000 grant.
Please note: Students are not eligible to apply. All applicants must have a fiscal sponsor in order to apply.
