AN OSCAR NOMINEE

We are pleased to congratulate Leslie Iwerks on her Oscar nomination for her documentary film “Recycled Life”. We also want to give credit to Fernanda Rosi, our very own Documentary Doctor, who served as a story consultant to Leslie in the rough cut stage of her film. We are proud of you both and will be looking for you on the stage this Sunday at the Oscars!!!

DOCUCLUB’s Idea Workshop

@ The IFC Center, 323 Sixth Avenue @ W. 3rd St.
Subways: Take A, B, C, D, E, F or V to W. 4th St./Washington Square or the 1 to Christopher St./Sheridan Square.
DocuClub Members FREE / Non-members $10.75

DocuClub’s Idea Workshop is an intimate pitching session where accepted filmmakers pitch their ideas to industry representatives who, in turn, provide feedback on the strength of the pitch (and often trailer) and the potential markets for the film’s subject matter. Filmmakers can practice their pitch, industry reps get a first hand look at new projects, and the audience gets to learn about this all-important facet of documentary funding and production. This program always sells out and has recently included industry representatives from PBS, P.O.V., Sundance Channel, BRAVO, Showtime Networks, Magnolia Pictures, and Cinetic Media. A networking reception follows.

ADMISSION:
MEMBERS: FREE.  Please RSVP at mail@docuclub.org

**********************************************************
Idea Workshop submission requirements:

Please submit the following:

1. Three VHS/DVD trailers less than 10 minutes in length
2. Three copies of your synopsis and production timeline
3. Three copies of director’s bio
4. Main contact information
5. Please ALSO email the above to mail@docuclub.org. This will let us know that we will be receiving a submission in the mail.

Preference will be given to projects that are new and have not been exposed to the industry through other pitching forums, markets, or festivals. While submitting trailers with a project is not required, we feel that it adds great strength to any pitch and weighs heavily in our selection process.

You must be a DocuClub member to submit to the Idea Workshop program. If you are not, please fill out the member form and include a check for $40 with your submission (payable to DocuClub, Inc).

Mail all submissions to:

Co-curators Mahen Bonetti (African Film Festival, Inc.) and Carlos Gutiérrez (Cinema Tropical) will present diverse works exploring migration, homelands, Third Cinema, and the popular. Invited artists include Abderrahmane Sissako, Ximena Cuevas, Khalo Matabane, Theo Eshetu, and Kalup Linzy.
